Fire Chief
City of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California

The City of Carmel-by-the-Sea (tucked along the central coast in Monterey County, California) is seeking a creative, results-oriented problem solver who is focused on providing the highest level of service possible to a unique and quaint coastal community (4,800 population). This is an exciting opportunity, due to the retirement of a long tenured chief, for a professional to work in the forest-like environment of the one-square-mile picturesque Carmel-by-the-Sea village.

The successful candidate will oversee a full service Fire Department, a budget of approximately $883,000, and a staff of 8 sworn, 1 non-sworn, and approximately 22 paid-call volunteers. The City of Carmel-by-the-Sea is also a member of a joint powers authority that provides paramedic ambulance service, which houses a unit in the Carmel Fire Station. The Fire Department is actively involved in providing educational programs for residents and the business community in the areas of fire prevention and public safety. A Bachelor's degree and at least five years of responsible fire suppression and prevention experience including three years of management and supervisory experience are required.

Salary range is $84,480 - $102,708 DOQ with excellent benefit package including CalPERS. Confidential inquiries welcome. Submit resume, cover letter, and five professional references to Ralph Andersen & Associates, 4240 Rocklin Road, Suite #11, Rocklin, CA 95677, or apply@ralphandersen.com by March 16, 2001.
