Firefighters in paramedic assignments perform skilled work in combating, extinguishing and preventing fires; responding to requests for emergency medical care; performing rescue activities; providing hazardous materials response; and performing related duties as required.

Requires graduation from a Fire Academy certified by the California State Fire Marshal's Office and high school graduation or its equivalent. Current California State Paramedic License, Orange County Paramedic Accreditation (must be obtained within 90 days of appointment when hired as a Firefighter with a current Paramedic license); CPR (Basic Life Support) Certificate, "Biddle & Associates" Physical Ability Test certificate (successful completion within the 12 months prior to the filing deadline); and a valid California Driver's License (or ability to obtain a CDL within three months of appointment if from out of state) are also required.

Other Required Certifications: Hazardous Materials First Responder certification must be completed within the first six months of appointment. PC-832 must be completed prior to the end of the probationary period. Auto (Vehicle) Extrication, Rescue Systems I, and ICS 200 certifications are highly desirable.
