The Gurnee Fire Department seeks an experienced fire prevention professional for the position of Fire Marshal to oversee the Fire Prevention Bureau. The Bureau is staffed by 3 Civilian Fire Inspectors, one Administrative Secretary, and one part-time General Office Secretary, and is responsible for the plan review, fire inspection, and fire investigation activities of residential, commercial, retail, and industrial facilities; a theme park; and shopping center. For year 2003, the Bureau performed 3,566 inspections, conducted 361 plan reviews, and investigated 37 structure fires. Total department budget is $6.6 million; Class 3 ISO.

Position requires demonstrated experience in fire prevention and inspection; fire investigation; hazardous materials; training; public education; and administrative and budgeting activities. Bachelor's degree highly desirable; Associate's degree / equivalent training and professional experience required.
