January 7, 2005 (7:30 am to 4:00 pm) CURRENT VACANCIES: The City of Huntington Beach Fire Department is seeking career minded individuals with solid preparation and commitment to enter a long-term career in the fire service profession. Ideal candidates will possess excellent interpersonal and multi-cultural skills, have a strong commitment to community involvement, as well as have a good understanding of basic teaching techniques. Foreign language proficiency (especially Spanish or Vietnamese) is highly desirable. The City anticipates filling approximately six vacancies from the employment eligible list. The employment eligible list may be valid for one year, unless exhausted sooner. Current and future vacancies will be filled from the employment eligibility list.
SELECTION PROCEDURE: An official City job application, Supplemental Questionnaire and required attachments must be submitted in person by the applicant on the specified date as instructed on the "Application and Testing Process" information sheet (available on website at www.surfcity-hb.org/jobs) No exceptions will be permitted.* Please do NOT mail application materials as they will NOT be accepted nor returned. Only the first 400 applications accepted will be considered for further processing. Applicants meeting minimum qualifications will be invited to an examination process which will include the following: 1) Written test (weighted 40%); 2) Physical ability test (pass/fail); 3) Oral board interview (weighted 60%); 4) Swim Test (pass/fail). Qualified candidates successfully completing all portions of the selection and examination process will be placed on an employment eligibility list from which appointments may be made. Prior to an employment offer, a comprehensive background investigation will be conducted on all candidates considered for employment. Upon a conditional offer of employment, a pre-placement medical exam, polygraph, psychological evaluation, and drug screen will be conducted. New hires are required to successfully complete a twelve (12) month probationary period. *NOTE: Current City employees or E.S.I.
