I am a career fire marshal in New Jersey and wear a nomex Class B uniform everyday. Was just wondering if anyone has come across any "female" fitting uniform pants that actually look OK. I am specifically looking for pants that sit just below the waist and don't come up so high like the "guys" pants that I have to wear everyday. I'm sure I'm not the only w/this lovely problem.
Thanks!!!

I ordered actual women's nomex pants and they looked even worse than the men's pants. They came up EVEN HIGHER and the butt was so big it was like clown pants. I got the men's pants altered so they come in at the waist and it is tolerable. I still feel I look like the big-butt lady cops on Reno 911. I've been debating finding a really good tailor and seeing if he can actually drop the waistband so my pants don't belt 3 inches below my bustline. I'll let you know if it works out.

I've actually thought of that myself - maybe one day in my spare time. I did just hear of a company that possibly is going to make them however, not in nomex - so there goes that idea.

Funny to read that some of you have troubles with the pants. Over here we have the same nomex clothes for men and women and they fit perfectly well. Never had (or heard of) any problems with them.

I think the work uniforms means to be able to work in them. So they do what they are made for, but if it is uncomfortable then it is good your trying to fix the problem.

The guys (mostly) look snazzy in their uniforms. I'd like to as well. I come from a white-collar background, which may be why the uniform, and especially the clip-on tie, took some getting used to. It does do the job, but I eagerly await the advent of stretch nomex. Does anyone get to wear shorts or t-shirt as part of their regular uniform? I'd like to be able to skip the nomex shirt and wear just a dept. tee in really hot weather.

Yes we have to wear PFD approved tshirts under our workshirts but can wear only the tshirt when the commissioner deems the weather hot enough. And also PFD approved cargo shorts but only if a memo was submitted prior to wearing them. But I wont wear them because I feel there is not enough safety barrier between me and other people bodily fluids and filthy homes. We are not allowed to wear outer gear on medical runs. And trust me, on some of these runs you dont even want to walk in the door.

My dept. has Class A, Class B uniforms. We mostly wear polo shirts or t-shirts. If there is a special event we wear the button/zipper shirts. Most of the guys wear shorts in the summer, but I don't. I agree that shorts don't proved enough barrier between me and the nasty stuff out there! At night I wear the dept work out shorts, because I wear my turnout pants on calls. In the winter I wear "warmies" (women long johns) under them. We also have dept sweat shirts for the colder months. Our tshirts are long or short sleeve. Hope that helps.

DMF I use to wear long johns but last year I bought Under Armour and it kept me warm during those bitter cold extra alarms. And the best part is that it doesnt bulk you up and you can move comfortably. Kinda like a second skin under your uniform.

Yes it is the same and it does make you sweat a little. I just put on extra anit-persprant and it works well.

I have been battleing the women uniform issue for 16 years. Finally several years ago I found a company that not only makes womens pants but uniform shirts also. It's called Workrite/Benchmark, & I insisted my department issue them to the women that want them. I'm very curvy & now I don't have to look like "Pat".
