Hello. I am a student at Sierra College and I am gathering info on females in the fire service for a future broshure and posters. They will be directed specifically towards the recruitment of young females who are interested in a career as a fire fighter. I am gathering quotes and names from professional female firefighters that could possibly be used as a slogan or headline for some of the posters. The more quotes and variety, the better! If you are interested, please repond with your quote, your name and rank, and what Dept you are from.
Thank you!

I know that you need a great slogan that stands out above all others.I have a few quotes that I really like that are short and inspiring.
Life is what you make it.
Dare to Dream!
Attitude is everything
Believe and you can achieve!
Accept new challenges
Don't count your days, make your days count!
Life is too short for missed opportunities!
Be the best YOU can be
Live life to its fullest
Dare to dream............
Raise the bar
Yes, you can!
Lead by example
These can be applied to anything!!

|
"I am a woman who knows her place; IN THE KITCHEN, with forty pounds of gear on my back and spraying water at about 130 PSI..." CPT Geraldine Rodriguez
"So you don't like the idea of women being firefighters, huh? Especially if they try to tell you what to do? So, what would you do if your mother wanted to be a firefighter? Would you tell your Mom that she wasn't good enough to protect lives and tell you what to do? Boy, you have bigger balls than I do, my Mom is my Station Commander (Captain) and the only thing I tell her is "YES, MA'AM..." My response to a highly experienced (dripping sarcasm) comment from an 18 year old fireman.
And my favorite: "My mom is a fireman!" My son, Lucas, to his entire preschool class. There is nothing like knowing your child is proud of you.

Hey,
I'd be interested in the result of it, as we (the German Fire Services Association) are currently working on a nation-wide project to get more women in the fire services. Could you keep me updated on the outcome? Maybe even send me some of the posters/brochures? That would be very helpful!
I just told the "IN THE KITCHEN"-quote to my coworkers (all firefighters, two women, four men), and they kinda cracked up. From now on, I'll use this in my conferences, I think...
I don't know if quotes from non-US-women would be helpful, but if you like, I could give you some (I'm a volunteer firefighter who's now working in the National Association). Are you interested?
Gruß

It's a little long, and it is gender neutral, but the best advice I ever got from my Training Officer:
"Treat your body as though it's the most important tool on the fire engine... because it is. Without you, every tool on the engine is completely useless. Besides your body, the only tool more important for fighting fire is your brain."
