Our department is talking about having a firefighter's ball. We recently had an opportunity to purchase class A uniforms. The guys are going to wear their class As or tux's(for those that didn't order class As). I ordered not only class A, but got the optional skirt. I am torn between wearing my class A with skirt, or wearing a gown. The guys are giving me a hard time already for even considering wearing a gown, but I am after all, still a girl. Which should I choose?
Along the same lines as being a girl, I am just curious as to how many departments out there require that women have short hair(and I mean above the collar, above the ears, cannot extend longer than two inches short!).

Hi Tygrr,
If some of the men are wearing tuxes instead of uniforms, wearing a gown sounds appropriate. So wear what you'll have the most fun in. If you go in a gown, I guess you should be prepared for strangers who meet you at the ball to ask "Which firefighter are you married to?"

I agree w/ baileydonk. Wear what will make you feel good. I'd probably go for the gown if others are wearing tuxes. I enjoy getting out of the "man suit" once in a while.

I WOULD GO FOR THE GOWN. I MAY EVEN WEAR "THE FIRE ENGINE RED" ONE I OWN. I TOO LIKE TO GET OUT OF MY UNIFORM AND PUT MY HAIR DOWN. I KNOW WHO I AM AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.
SPEAKING OF HAIR. OUR HAIR RULES AND REGULATIONS STATE "ABOVE THE BOTTOM OF THE BUTTONED UP COLLAR, AND ABOVE THE BOTTOM OF THE EAR.
DO THE GUYS VIOLATE THE RULE ? YES. THEY ARE NEVER WRITTEN UP AND SOMETIMES THEY DO NOT SHAVE AND THAT IS IN VIOLATION ALSO.
I HAVE HAIR DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF MY BUTT. I KEEP IT UP IN A BUN ON CALLS AND WHILE OUT OF THE STATION AND WHEN DEALING WITH THE PUBLIC. I DO PUT IT DOWN WHILE I WATCH TV IN HOUSE IN THE EVENING. CURRENTLY WE HAVE ONE GUY WITH HAIR TO THE MIDDLE OF HIS BACK, HE BRADES IT AND TUCKS IT UP UNDER AND PINS IT. FUNNY THING IS HE HAS NO HAIR ON TOP OF HIS HEAD MALE PATTERN BALDNESS AND ALL... SO THE HAIR HE HAS IS NOT MUCH LOL.

I'm going to break with the crowd. How many women will be in gowns, and how many in Class As? Go with the Class A with skirt. You've earned it.
I've got hair halfway down my back and never had to cut it. It was always up and under control while on duty, and in a ponytail when I slept.

Blackwidow - have you considered calling the fashion police to ticket your long-on-the-sides-bald-on-the-top coworker?
