My name is Edna and I have been trying since early November of last year to work at a Fire Dept. but no matter how hard I try nothing seems to work. When I go to talk to firefighters words just can't express how much I want to be a firefighter. In my senior of high school year I went to a tech school and took a course on Public Saftey. I know how to do a lot of the things that firefighters have to do and what they go through. I'm not totaly clueless on what being a firefighter means I'm just a little lost on what my next stpes should be. If anyone has any advise I would love to hear from you.
Thanks!
Edna

Edna,
Your intentions are good, but you probably have a long way to go. A journey of a thousand miles begins with your first step, and this is your first step:
Understand that getting on the job is not simple or easy process. Getting hired for another job may be as simple as showing up for an interview; getting hired as a firefighter is a much more difficult and political process. And jobs are scarce and competition is fierce. You might go a year or several years without getting on the job.
Understand all that, and you'll be ready to think about step two.

Edna --
Also see the information on this page:
https://wfsi.org/women_and_firefighting/become.php
Or (to get to the same page) click on "Women & Firefighting" in the blue menu bar above, and then on "Becoming a Firefighter."
Good luck!

My best guess is go to your local fire department and see if they have voulenter positions or go to a local fire academy and recive your fire fighter and maybe go for your emt because most stations have EMT's as well then you can go from there
