Hi everyone,
My dream is to be a firefighter. My finances, my body and my mind in the waiting game of testing and competing are getting tired. The fire department always states do not quit your current job until you are sure you are accepted to the fire academy...which makes sense....however employers do not always understand this. So it is kind of like being a military reserve and finding a employer to play the game with you is exhausting.
I have two children to help support, so I have to have some kind of employment. I also have rent and bills. My dream of being of being a firefighter I hope can be more than a dream and become a reality. As the clock keeps ticking I realize I am going to have to set a firmer time frame.
Because the reality is the hour glass is going to say time is up.

Dear Future FF,
All I can say is keep at it!!! It took me 6 years woth of testing, worrying, and hoping. And lots or praying to get in. Just when I had about given up- and I mean really called it quits- I got the call!!!
There is a time when you say - enough, but if you've still got the desire it's not that time yet.
Having a job that you love is worth it- all the time it took will just make you appreciate it so much more. I speak from experience.
Alot of the guys, they got the job so easy it doesn't even occur to them to be grateful for it.
Stick it out you'll be thankful,
My hopes and prayers are with you,
Career FF in Western PA

Dear FFF,
I forgot to add this- in the meantime while waiting. Improve yourself to have some advance skills before getting hired.
Such as- take an evening class or two. on topics such as electrical wiring, welding, woodworking, mechanics these will all help you when you do get hired. If you know some technical stuff (how to use tools and chainsaws) and other manly type stuff you'll impress the guys when you are hired and it will make an immense difference in your skill as a FF.
It'll also help you forget- the discouraging thoughts of the present
As far as physical strength- you must be strong but in in all actuality it comes down to mastering the technique. Brains can overcome brawn.
You will learn the tricks of the trade.
Take Care,
FF T
