Womens Fire Service Expo
Saturday, June 10th, 2006
8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
The Eden Prairie Fire Department, in conjunction with Fire Departments in Bloomington, Chanhassen, Edina, Hopkins and Minnetonka, will be hosting Womens Fire Service Expo, a one-day hands-on and informational event on Saturday, June 10 designed specifically for women.
Women that live or work in any of these suburbs can attend and learn more about fire fighting and about how they can become a volunteer fire fighter. In addition, they will have the opportunity to meet and talk with women fire fighters from these communities, hear about their experiences and get some hands-on experience.
Eden Prairie fire fighter Kim Hanlon is leading the effort to put this training event together. "Women are severely under represented in the fire fighting field," said Hanlon. "Suburbs such as Eden Prairie and these other departments depend on volunteer forces to staff their ranks. Women can play an important part in protecting the citys where they live and work. This event is specially designed for women that may have an interest in becoming a fire fighter"
The Womens Fire Training Expo will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 10 at the fire training tower located in Edina near Braemar Park at 7525 Braemar Boulevard. There is no cost for women interested in attending, but pre-registration is required. Women that live or work in any of the six suburbs can sign up to take part in this event by completing the registration form below.
Fire Departments from Bloomington, Chanhassen, Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins and Minnetonka all need additional volunteer fire fighters. This Training Event is specifically designed for women. Men that may be interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer fire fighter should contact their local fire department directly.
