MY NAME IS TATIANA IM 24YRS OLD,AND LIVE THE BRONX,NY AREA. AND I JUST APPLY FOR THE NYC FD TO BECOME A FIREFIGHTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IM SHAKING IN MY BOOTS, BECAUSE I WANT THIS SO BAD AND AND I WANT TO GIVE MY 110% BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO START AND THE THOUGHT OF 30,000 GUYS AND LITTLE OL ME FOR A SPOT OF ABOUT 1,000 SLOTS IS SO SURREAL.......
I WANT TO BLOW THEM AWAY....IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE IN THE NYC AREA THAT CAN HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tip 1: Don't type in caps.

Tip 2: Workoutworkoutworkout. You're going to be up against a lot of people who aren't only very intelligent, they are also very strong. It isn't enough to be in good shape, you have to be in amazing shape. NYC is probably the HARDEST place to get a job.

Tip 3: If you just made this decision recently, and haven't had any time to prepare, you may want to consider training for awhile before you test. It really isn't enough to buy a study guide and jog every day. Anything that will give you an edge over 29,000 other people who want something as badly as you do is worth considering. If there's some schooling you can do, DO IT. If there are other certifications you can get before testing, DO IT. If it is possible to get hired on somewhere else first, DO IT. You can always join NYC later, and you will definitely be more hireable if you can say, "Well, yeah, the last 2 years I've been with the crew in Poughkeepsie..."

Tip 4: If they don't hire you your first time, don't give up! Nothing which is as rewarding as firefighing will ever be handed to you without a struggle.

but silence is correct. You do not just have to stand with everyone else you have to stand above them. Physically only you know what shape you are in, but if you are in good shape get in excellant shape.
As far as testing, there are websites that you can get into to take a practice test and study. Open the books though and study, study, study.
If its meant to be it will happen. If you pray, pray for his guidance for what you should do and he will provide.
