Hello, I recently found this site and thought it was wonderful to have a place to ask questions, get advice, and learn from others. I live in the great state of Alabama. For the last 10 years I have served my community as a volunteer firefighter, while being a stay at home wife/mom mother of 3 children (1 child being severally handicapped). Over a year ago, I became a EMT-Basic and at the present have choosen that as my career path. My heart will always be with my family and the Fire & EMS field. I am married to a good man who is also a firefighter & EMT, at the present he is attending school to become a medic. He is the reason I first became a firefighter. Being from a small town often we are short handed on calls, he would ask me to come along and give him a hand, it didn't take long before I was hooked, I started fully understanding why one would devote so much of their time to being a volunteer firefighter. What else can I say, I found something I loved almost as much as my family and something I felt I was good at.
Anyway, I had some spare time and found this site while suffering the internet. I looked over a few post and found myself relating with so many of you, I thought it would be a good idea join. I look forward to communicating with each and everyone of you, learning from those who have so much knowledge to share.
Deb.

I am new to the site and am please to see that women in the fire service can network with others on daily challenges. I am a Volunteer District Chief of a mostly male membership. I am very fortunate to not have issues regarding my crew taking orders from a "Woman". I think the secret is not thinking of ourselves by gender but by Brotherhood and common goal. Just curious if anyone else feels the same way or is having issues and how are you dealing with it?
