You only joined yesterday and yet you have an opinion on pregnancy and child rearing for female firefighters. You are not a female firefighter so why are you posting on our website? Do you even personally have a female firefighter as a close friend? I think you are only here to get a rise out of those of us who are professionals and have a passion for our jobs. Quit busting on those of us who love our kids and our jobs. We are there to do a job and do it well with pride. You need to work on your spelling, grammar, and punctuation if you are going to post here.

She is MARRIED to a firefighter. I will bet she got all her ideas from HIM. Poor soul, I know I will add her to my prayers tonight and in the future. She seems unhappy and that is no way to live. She needs to evaluate the marriage... If she is say... 45 years old, she has another 40 years to live (give or take) does she want to spend the last half of her life or the next 40 some years this way ?

It is so cute I think, how she is responding to all of the posts. She is trying to come in here and blast us for chosing a career in fire and also trying to be women and have children which we are entitled to. I believe every department should have maternity policies, and for her information there is the family leave act which entitles both men and women 12 weeks or more off if needed and it can be to care for a new child. Women dont neccessarily get pay when they are on maternity leave, but it holds our jobs so we can come back to a job. They make women use all of their sick leave and vacation leave before they will pay them. I am a big advocate for change in the fire service, because it has been needed for a long time. I am not asking for equality, but only to be accepted and not discriminated against (ex: pregnancy or being a woman).
I just got one thing for you girl: try doing firefighting and then come back and talk to all of us women and tell us what you want, because then after the grueling training you can talk. I've beat myself down so far, but you know what I keep coming back for more, because something inside of me loves firefighting. So when you stop listening to your woman firefighter hating husband and have an open mind on the issues and subjects that are posted please come back and post.

As for man chasing, the fire service is not the best place for that. Nothing like being all sweaty and dirty and cranky at 230 in the morning when you're rolling up hose. I'm not exactly thinking about what husband I can steal today.

Mdaeb sounds a lot like a small town stay at home mom who relys heavily on her husband and his connection with the fire department for her social and mental stimulation. In my past I have been a: stay at home mom, a secretary, a manager, a waitress, a lunch lady, and now, a very happy and job satisfied firefighter. I work in our dispatch center for now, a CHOICE I made to accomidate childcare and raising needs. I made a CHOICE to be a firefighter, to pay the near 5000 dollars to go to school, purchase gear for training, the gym membership to make sure I could pass the CPAT, and childcare while I did it all. I made a CHOICE to do all the jobs I have done, and to make the sacrifices for each one. I made a CHOICE to leave my husband to pursue my dream- simply because he was a male chauvenist pig that wouldn't stand for his wife to be a firefighter, and Lord forbid, work with men. I made the CHOICE to become happy. Sounds like she doesn't have that choice, or the ahem balls to do so. Muchos Kudos to those of us that have garnered our own set and done what we can to at infuse the world with happy, satisfied women. As far as the flirty little girls, they are everywhere. I just wonder what kind of department is so ultra lax in protocol, image standards, and hiring practices to even allow these "girls" access to the venue mdaeb has experienced. And what REAL man would want to work there?! Most of the guys I work with would have loved to see me fired simply because I USED to be a waitress in a bar!! I feel sorry for the community mdaeb and her husband are in.
