Barbara Poppo, a paramedic lieutenant for the New York City Fire Department, collapsed at her Brooklyn firehouse in the early morning hours of January 22, 2001, apparently the victim of a heart attack. Poppo was transported to Coney Island Hospital, where she died a short time later.
Poppo, who was 37, leaves a five-year-old daughter, Colleen. The 13-year veteran was the third FDNY member to die of an apparent heart attack in the space of less than a month. Her funeral was held at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn on January 25.
